What are the Benefits of Having a Life Coach? (And Is It Worth It?)

Become Successful at Reaching Your Goals with the Help of a Life Coach

I’ve got a confession to make. After booking my first life coach, I have become a life coach junkie. I am obsessed with the personal development realm and I found having a personal life coach to be the icing on the cake.

I relish in personal development blogs that can teach me how to up my game, self-help books that pull back the curtain to why I might be holding myself back. And I even love my cherished YouTube videos I watch throughout the week that motivate me and encourage me to never give up.

However, nothing can beat the benefits of having a life coach. Having my own personal accountability partner, guide, and mentor has helped me progress exponentially.

There is something amazing that happens every life coaching session. The coaching process is magical. Each session allows you to learn more deeply about yourself and uncover the limiting beliefs that are holding you back.

As a mother of five, life coaching has been instrumental in helping me find my true self, learn to love myself better, and show up as the mother I want to be for my children. One of the many benefits of coaching is that I have also been able to share some of the tools and strategies I’ve picked up with my children. I have shared with them topics like how to set goals, how to be confident, how to be assertive, and more! And most importantly, I work on doing those things myself.

So, What is a Life Coach Anyway?

A life coach is a professional who specializes in helping others improve their lives and achieve their goals and work towards the best version of themselves.

A life coach can help you bridge the gap between where you are now and where you desire to be. They know how to ask the right questions that can help you become clearer on what you want and guide you to realize your potential. They can help you develop a plan to reach your goals. Here are just some of the many benefits of having a life coach as a mom:

The Benefits of Having a Life Coach Include:

  • Increased confidence
  • Better relationships
  • Increased quality of life
  • Improved health and wellness
  • Clarity of goals
  • Overcoming fears
  • Finding your purpose or passion
  • Implementing better habits
  • Having a more balanced life
  • Staying consistent

Life Coaches Provide Accountability & Motivation

Everyone can use some accountability and encouragement in their own lives. Especially if they are lacking positive support from those closest to them. When making changes, it is common for those around you to worry about your safety and security. And, sometimes it’s simply because they don’t want you to change.

Have you ever noticed that when you take on a challenge along with a friend, such as taking walks together perhaps, that you are more likely to keep at it long term? With an accountability partner, we work harder and we typically stick with it long enough to see a true difference in our lives.

The benefits of having a life coach to serve as an accountability partner is that he or she can keep you motivated towards your goals.

What is the Difference Between a Therapist and a Life Coach?

The difference between a therapist and a life coach is the focus of the work. Counselors and therapists work on mental health and healing emotionally, often dealing with the past.

Life coaching will dabble in the past at times to uncover some understanding of what might be holding them back. But overall, life coaching is forward-focused, as it works on setting goals and achieving them. Helping them realize their best self.

I think this quote from The Ladders sums it up nicely, “When looking to answer the question ‘Why?” a therapist may be the person you want to talk to. For questions like “What now?” or “How do I change?” a life coach is exactly what you need.”

Is a Life Coach Worth it?

My first life coach was self-esteem coach and psychotherapist, . She was nothing short of amazing! Through our conversations, she challenged me with powerful questions, and shared with me coping strategies and tips. It was through these calls that I realized how much I was holding myself back and allowing myself to be stuck in the past.

After being a stay-at-home mom for over 10 years, which included homeschooling my children, I found transitioning into the working role incredibly difficult. I had a bad case of imposter syndrome, a fixed mindset, and a boatload of skills I never developed. My life coach was supportive and affirming each step of the way.

Once I found that I held my own power to choose to move forward, it was freeing! I couldn’t believe how much time I wasted taking life on the sidelines. I started to learn more about personal development and applying all I could to my life. I started developing better habits and achieving small goals which would grow into bigger goals.

I don’t want to make it sound like it was easy. At every turn, it seemed that I had a new obstacle to overcome as I would uncover limiting beliefs alongside my life coach. However, through these growing pains, the improvement I have made has been life-changing.

I have experienced many benefits of having a life coach. My coaching experience has led me to rediscovering myself, loving myself better, rekindling my joy, helping me to overcome many struggles, and learn to take on a growth mindset and so much more!

How do I Choose a Life Coach?

To choose a life coach:

1. Decide on a Goal

The first step to finding a life coach, is to know why you want to have one in the first place? Are you looking for some accountability towards general goals? Or are you needing help in a more specific area like relationship coaching, or overcoming negative self-talk?

2. Find a Life Coach

Once you know what you are looking for in a coach, do a little google research to see what you can find. Decide if you want to have a coach who you can meet in person or if you are open to communicating over the phone, or through video conferencing.

Many life coaches offer free discovery calls or sample sessions that allow you to connect before moving forward with the coaching process. Once you find a coach that sounds like a match for you, see if you can feel them out and if you two connect.
